This position is for a Family Practice Physician at the Naval Health Clinic, Patuxent River, MD (NHCPR). The selectee shall be responsible to the Primary Care Department Head for delivering appropriate quality treatment and diagnosis to active duty, active duty family members, retirees, and retiree family members. The selectee will serve as a primary care provider with enrolled patients and assist with: advising other care providers (Nurse Practitioner, Physician Assistant, Independent Duty Corpsman); consultant and advisor; as a medical representative on boards and committees, in conferences and other activities involving the health care of the population served.

A typical day includes:

  • Examining, diagnosing, and treating of all persons (age 0-64 y/o) eligible for treatment at Naval Health Clinic, Patuxent River, MD (NHCPR). This includes referrals for admission and to consultants; and coordination of care with primary and specialty providers.

  • Performing physical examination for active duty and eligible beneficiaries as required by current directives or higher authority: annual, periodic, discharge, separation, etc. Also included are women's health issues.

  • Assisting with setting up and conducting periodic screening programs for all eligible beneficiaries for diabetes, hypertensions, oral cancer, and other diseases.

  • Supervising nurses or a clinic team and providing technical direction in primary care/family practice to other clinicians.

  • Performing administrative duties which include statistical records or workload, participating on clinical staff boards and committees, and participating in medical education for staff.

  • Serving as the Department Head, as needed, including supervising the day to day operations of the entire clinical staff and monitoring the administrative functions of the respective department.

  • MD or DO from an accredited school in the United States or Canada. Is your degree from a foreign medical school? If yes, then you must have a permanent ECFMG or Fifth Pathway Certificate.   • 4 years of residency training or equivalent experience and training in Family Practice(i.e., 3 yrs. Residency & 1 yr. fellowship and/or experience)? Your resume must reflect that you have a sufficient level of expertise in Family Practice to perform the core privileges of this position at the GP-14 Level.

  • Active, permanent, full, unrestricted physician license to practice medicine in any state, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.

  • Satisfy BUMEDs clinical privileges requirements which, in addition to the above, includes the following:

  • Completion of a residency program in the specialtyapproved by the American specialty board or AOA, board certification, or board eligible.

  • Current clinical competence (e.g., privileged to independently practice as a Family PracticePhysician within the past 2 years, actively practiced within the past 2 years by having encountered a sufficient number of clinical cases to represent a broad spectrum of the privileges required).

  • No health status contraindications to granting clinical privileges.

  • Board certification is desired but not required.
