Peru Central School 0.6 FTE School Media Specialist in Peru, New York

The Peru Central School District expects to appoint an individual to the following position for the 2017 - 2018 school year:

0.6 FTE School Media Specialist (SMS)

Anticipated Assignment: K-12, current assignment in Secondary Program

Responsibilities May Include:
- Ability to teach, encourage, guide and help students in the use of the library and research
- Ability to manage a school library relative to selection, purchase, care of books and facilities
- Work cooperatively with teachers, students, and administrators to enrich and supplement classroom learning
- Help to set up and organize learning research units for use by classroom teachers
- Help to maintain a professional library including multi-audio visual software
- Manage exhibits and book displays, etc. for students
- Other responsibilities as designated by principal
- Strive to foster individual growth through pleasure reading
- Emphasizes mastery of the Empire State Information Fluency curriculum along with NYS Common core aligned standards
- Ability to collaborate with teachers to plan research units, design lessons, and assessments for small group and whole class instruction and accountability
- Be familiar with OPALS - online public access catalog for book searches
- Instruct students on a formal and informal basis in skills related to reading, research, production of materials and the use of information and instructional technologies
- Provide access to information and ideas by assisting students and faculty in identifying information resources, interpreting and communicating intellectual content
- Assist faculty and Admin to identify links across student information needs, curricular content, learning outcomes and a wide variety of print and digital information resources
- Provide leadership in the planning, management and evaluation of the school library programs
- Collaborate with teacher teams in all aspects of middle-level education and the 7 essential elements
- Other duties per contract

Compensation: Commensurate with qualifications and experience
