Your Opportunity

The Structural Engineer is a key part of the ViaSat team and will have a significant impact on the design, development and innovation of the structural integrity of ViaSat’s proprietary High Throughput Satellites. You will utilize your engineering expertise and imagination to create the world’s next generation of satellites.

Your keen analytical and problem-solving skills enable you to resolve a wide range of issues in imaginative, as well as practical ways. You have the competencies to be the technical leader for projects and teams from inception through to completion.

You consistently adapt to new circumstances, learn quickly when facing new problems or challenges and are open to change. You make it a point to listen to and act on feedback, and find it important to gain insight from errors. Moreover, you are a team player who places great value on meeting all team deadlines and deliverables.

Your Responsibilities

As Structural Engineer, you will

  • Utilize your experience in structural statics, dynamics, fatigue life calculations and damage tolerance as it relates to aircraft and space structures.

  • Leverage your expertise of metallic materials and MMPDS standards.

  • Leverage your practical use of composite materials and implementation of per ply versus bulk properties to compute structural margins.

  • Implement structural allowables from composite material tests.

  • Implement environmental loading such as random vibration, SRS & classical shock, acoustics, modal analysis onto analytical modeling


  • 3+ years’ experience in structural analysis in aviation and/or space industries

  • Software experience includes working knowledge of Nastran and FeMap (preferred)

  • Familiarity with environmental test methods in RTCA Do-160 and MIL-STD-810

  • Bachelor’s Degree in relevant Engineering discipline

  • US government position. US citizenship required

  • Up to 10% travel​


  • Secret Clearance is a plus
