Propulsion & Controls is the heart, muscles and brain of the train. Bombardier Transportation is the world’s leading provider of propulsion and control equipment for trains. Based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, as the Lead Project Engineer, you will lead, manage and control all engineering-related project activities to ensure completion on-time and within budget. You will also establish and ensure best practices are applied on projects and transferred to new projects.

In your role you will:

  • Lead all aspects of design, implementation, testing and commissioning required to deliver the scope of the engineering project so as to satisfy customer requirements while adhering to project budgets and schedules;

  • Oversee the continuous optimization of Project Engineering processes / tools / behaviors by taking into account business requirements, customer needs, technical innovations, and new market conditions;

  • Monitor, control and report on all financial aspects of the project consistent with the contract requirements and established project management procedures to attain goals;

  • Lead efforts to support collaboration in all areas (e.g. Project Management, Procurement, Operations, Quality);

  • Act as the main interface with customers;

  • Ensure that resources are available by the Engineering Function in order to fulfill project requirements.


As our ideal candidate:

  • You hold a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Software or Mechanical Engineering; a Master’s degree is preferred;

  • You possess a minimum of five (5) years of experience in project engineering within a manufacturing environment with a focus in rail, transportation, or propulsion;

  • Your background in the rail or automotive industry will be considered an asset;

  • You demonstrate a proven track record of successful project delivery on schedule and within budget;

  • You possess experience leading project engineering teams;

  • You demonstrate a high degree of proficiency in Microsoft Office and other internet applications;

  • You can operate independently while establishing strong working relationships with co-workers and cross-functional teams;

  • You possess a background in understanding and implementing customer requirements;

  • You possess strong organizational and prioritization skills;

  • You demonstrate critical attention to detail and deadlines, and are self-motivated;

  • You possess the ability to adapt well to change in direction and priorities in a project and deadline-oriented environment;

  • You demonstrate excellent written and verbal English communication skills.
