Segment Marketing Director, BIS Research


The Segment Marketing Director is responsible for the global segment marketing strategy and planning for Research within LexisNexis Business Insight Solutions.

The Segment Marketing Director takes a strategic approach to leading global marketing planning and contributing to the segment strategy with the objective of driving long-term development and adoption across markets. The Research segment offers various solutions, the main (global) solutions are Nexis and Academic. The purpose of the role is to develop and position the segment and products to maintain and upsell existing customers, find new customers and broaden and expand into new spaces. They will serve as a subject matter expert and work closely with local sales and marketing teams to ensure strong understanding of the segment. They will work closely with the Segment Leader, other members of the Segment Team, and global and regional sales and Marketing Teams.

The Segment Marketing Director reports into the Head of Marketing.

Key accountabilities and responsibilities

  • Strategy: contribute to strategy, identify markets trends, industries, understand market trends, key industries, persona’s, and geographies to focus on and use that information to develop global marketing plans and monitor competition.

  • Competitive Intelligence: Responsible for competitive intelligence gathering and translating that information into useful materials for Sales

  • Value propositions, persona development and messaging: lead development of the segments’ value propositions, persona’s and their workflows and draft messaging

  • Product Launches and Product Releases: planning and communications for product releases and product launches, working closely with the local marketing teams globally

  • Content marketing: planning and creation of thought-leadership content (white papers, surveys, blog input, topics for webinars, speaking slots)

  • Campaigns: responsible relations and memberships with associations, ownership of global marketing calendar, providing input/ideas for campaigns (local execution mostly), and product award submission

  • Tactical Execution: Create standard collateral, presentations and other materials that can be localized/translated and used in local markets as needed


Key skills, experience and competencies

  • Minimum Bachelor degree level (in Marketing or related field of study)

  • Minimum of 8 years of marketing experience in a product or solution-based segment marketing role in a B-to-B environment (Senior role).

  • Experience with developing and defining marketing strategy for best in class products and solutions.

  • Demonstrated ability to seek a deep understanding of the business, markets and products as well as develop strong plans that support the overall business strategy and result in business impact.

  • Experience with planning and executing through the product lifecycle, including gathering and prioritizing product and customer requirements, defining the product vision and working closely with marketing, product development, sales and support to ensure revenue and customer satisfaction.

  • Demonstrated leadership skills with the ability to bring people together and work successfully towards a common goal as well as sell ideas to senior leadership team.

  • Strong project management skills, ability to lead and manage complex projects across geographies.

  • Experience with writing value propositions and messaging, specifically the ability to turn complex product messaging into impactful customer-facing messages.

  • Experience with doing business in various cultures, languages and geographies.

  • Experience and knowledge in Research solutions is preferred

  • Willingness to travel and/or be located in other locations for periods of time

  • Preferably located in an office with a LexisNexis Business Insight team (Dayton, Raleigh, London, Amsterdam, Paris, Dusseldorf)

  • High level of initiative and self-motivation, with experience successfully working on a (virtual) team environment.

  • Strong communicator, excellent networking, presentation and communication skills

  • Fluent in the English language, verbal and writing. Excellent knowledge of another language highly desirable.
