Uranium Conversion and Recovery (UCAR) :

The Uranium Conversion and Recovery (UCAR) product center is responsible for the conversion of uranium hexafluoride (UF6) to uranium dioxide (UO2) powder and the recovery of uranium from various scrap and waste streams to make UO2 powder. The powder is subsequently used in downstream processes to make fuel for commercial nuclear power reactors in the production of electricity. Numerous mechanical and chemical processes are utilized to accomplish these activities.

  • Job Description: *

  • AREVA is seeking an Engineer I for it's Uranium Conversion and Recovery (UCAR)* Operations in Richland, WA. This role under direct supervision, performs standard engineering work requiring application of standard established techniques and procedures to carry out tasks. Assignments involve responsibility for planning/conducting a complete task or portion of a larger project under direction of more experienced staff. Provides technical support related to planning, designing, analyzing, constructing and maintaining structures, systems and components. Provides engineering advice, as needed

Responsibilities and duties include:

  • Performs standard engineering assignments typically in areas of design, development, analysis, evaluation, testing, preparation of specifications, execution of field tasks and resolution of field/process problems.

  • Receives assistance and instructions on unusual or more complex features and possible solutions, as needed.

  • May independently evaluate, select and apply standard technical techniques, procedures, and criteria using judgement in making minor adaptations and modifications.

  • Works on special projects, as directed.

  • Performs other related duties and tasks, as required.

  • Learns, understands, and directs chemical processes.

  • All candidates must meet the following minimum requirements in order to be considered for this opportunity. Candidates who exceed minimum qualifications may be considered for a higher level position. *

    • Engineer I * - Bachelor's degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology PLUS 0-2 years of engineering experience.
  • Basic knowledge of related engineering standards, techniques and criteria.

  • Good communication skills including the ability to comprehend and convey detailed technical data.

  • Ability to develop and maintain good interpersonal relationships.

  • Good problem identification/problem resolution skills.

  • Aptitude for continuous learning and improvement.

  • TRAVEL *

Sporadic - Domestic/International Travel (2%). There will be occasional travel to Europe (France and Germany primarily) and to other parts of the USA.
