Machine & Process Control Senior Manufacturing Technology Engineer (Job Number: 010933W-01)
We are seeking an experienced manufacturing plant Machine Control Electrical Engineer who loves electrical PLC-based controls of mechanical and electrical equipment including Balers, Crimpers, general Fiber processing equipment, and plant utility systems.
This position is part of the Manufacturing Technology organization for NOMEX® and the Powerhouse at the Spruance facility in Richmond, Virginia. NOMEX® and Spruance are part of the growth-oriented DuPont® Protection Solutions business unit. This position is part of a team providing Technical support and project work to upgrade these facilities. The team approach ensures strong business results, a gratifying work environment, and backup teammates to cover during vacation and any work travel.
Responsibilities of this position include:
Technology lead for PLC and other electrical systems for the NOMEX® Crimping and Baling areas and later for the Powerhouse and other systems.
Either technology lead or partner with the lead for associated DCS interfaces and controls, depending on the candidate’s DCS skills. The number 1 criteria for this position is PLC machine control skills, particularly with Rockwell systems. DCS skills are viewed as a plus, particularly with Honeywell DCS systems.
Serving as a backup for areas led by teammates
Completing large and small capital replacements and improvements as a Tech lead or team member, depending on the project.
Supporting everyday operation 24x7 including specifying and updating standard operating conditions and procedures, troubleshooting and skilled problem-solving, training, and mentoring.
Supporting ongoing control systems software and hardware upgrades and ensuring working backup systems and strong cybersecurity.
Continually improving the effectiveness of existing control systems, the operator interfaces, and troubleshooting diagnosis systems and documentation.
Working collaboratively with other engineers, operations, maintenance, vendors, and internal consultants.
Developing and making clear proposals for peers and management for large and small improvements of the Process, Equipment, and overall Safety and business results.This position will require occasional travel for training, factory acceptance tests, assessing equipment at other sites or vendors, or joint work with another plant site, but travel will be low.
Legal right to work in the U.S. via citizenship or Green Card.
Bachelors’ degree or higher in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university.
At least 5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment configuring and supporting machine control for Rockwell-based PLC systems (including ControlLogix® and PLC-5’s).
Demonstrated teamwork skills and ability to work smoothly with engineers, IT, mechanics, operators, and managers in all functional organizations.
Strong organization skills and commitment to detailed follow-up and meeting agreed timelines.
Strong communication skills (written, oral, and formal presentations)
Strong long-term desire to improve and support PLC and other electrical controls of electrical and mechanical equipment in a 24x7 manufacturing environment with vacation & travel backup partners.
Additional Consideration Given for Depth of Skills in any of the following areas:
Authoring functional specifications of and programming batch automation projects
Current machine guarding requirements and interaction with electrical control systems
Familiarity with electrical drives
Common associated networks such as ControlNet, DeviceNet, serial interfaces, and OPC.
Factory Talk Asset Center
Supporting or configuring DCS systems. Honeywell experience a bonus.
Baling, crimping, and/or other fiber processing equipment
Powerhouse utility systems
Siemens PLC experience (to permit support of any Siemens PLC controls part of vendor package systems)
Strong capital project experience
