DuPont Pressure Relief Device Design Basis Engineer & PHA Resource in Richmond, Virginia

Pressure Relief Device Design Basis Engineer & PHA Resource (Job Number: 010934W-01)

Job Description

This Manufacturing Technology (MT) Senior Engineer position will serve as the leader for Pressure Relief Device Design Basis and a Process Hazards Analysis (PHA) Resource (and often Leader) for one of the major product lines at the Spruance plant in Richmond, VA. This position is part of the DuPont® Protection Solutions (DPS) Technical organization which supports KEVLAR®, NOMEX®, and TYVEK®.

As the Relief Device MT Design Basis Leader, the individual will work with MT and Process Modeling experts to evaluate the 17-19 hazard scenario classes that may apply to a specific relief device, develop the list of credible scenarios to which a relief device may be subject in desired service, and develop documentation required for a design house to do the device specification.

As a PHA Resource and Leader, the individual will lead a team effort of multi-functional area experts including Process, Process Control, operator, mechanic, and manufacturing supervisors through complete hazards analyses following DuPont® and industry standard practices. Over a period of years this effort will include 5-year cyclic analyses of major High Hazard Process (HHP) areas as well as smaller project or special purpose PHA’s. The leader is not expected to be the expert for these process areas, but rather brings leadership skill, broad HHP process knowledge and skills from prior experience and other PHA’s, and ability to get input and drive consensus with diverse personalities and backgrounds.

This role requires having strong understanding of process hazards, PHA scenario development and analysis, working well with other experts, and understanding normal and abnormal situations expected in a running chemical process. This position requires maintaining current knowledge of DuPont® standards in Relief and PHA areas.

This position is primarily day-based, but this individual will sometimes be required to support off-hours due to unexpected situations. Travel will not be frequent, but will be occasionally required for training and development, meeting with design house or possible occasional consultation with other DPS sites.
