Position Description

The Global Payroll Business Lead will act as a liaison between the Payroll, Human Resources, and Information Technology groups and other key internal and external constituents to drive process and technology improvements across the end-to-end time to gross, gross to net, and pay to report processes. Responsibility to develop global strategy for payroll processes, technology platforms and service delivery as well as coordinate M&A activities across stakeholders for payroll processes.

Main Areas of Responsibility

  • Develops and implements global payroll strategy to align with business needs and objectives, including service delivery and governance model.

  • Provides collaborative payroll process-related consulting and advice, working across appropriate stakeholder teams.

  • Evaluates payroll business processes for efficiency and effectiveness; recommends changes to processes based on best practices and/or business needs and objectives; recommends changes to policies and procedures.

  • Monitors and reports payroll process performance including issue handling, issue resolution, error rates.

  • Establishes and monitors control and compliance objectives for all payroll business processes.

  • Identifies, defines and documents business requirements for process and system enhancements and/or new functionality.

  • Facilitate business process design sessions.

  • Oversees testing in the areas of functionality and reporting of new upgrades, enhancements or newly implemented functionality including test plan development, test scripts, test plan execution.

  • Establishes and leads end-to-end payroll process governance group, including all key internal and external stakeholders.

  • Manages projects across multi-disciplinary functions of Payroll within allotted time-frames and budgets, including activities arising from M&A.


  • At least ten (10) years of business experience, preferably in pharmaceutical industry

  • At least 5 years of payroll experience with at least 2 years of project management in leading payroll and/or HR-related technology initiatives

  • Knowledge of outsourced payroll providers (i.e., ADP) and payroll-related systems (i.e., Workday and Kronos)

  • Experience with employee benefits, payroll accounting and reporting

  • Implementation experience with payroll systems in large, multi-FEIN organizations

  • Experience providing advanced payroll system support, including but not limited to: 3rd party vendor management, mass updates, custom reporting, end of year processing

  • Demonstrated project management experience and strategic planning skills

  • Ability to analyze, understand and flow chart business and system processes

  • Excellent oral communication, presentation, active listening and facilitation skills, Microsoft Office proficiency (Access, Word, PowerPoint, Project and Excel) and MS Visio

  • Good writing and documentation skills including the presentation of complex subjects in a clear and precise manner

  • Ability to collaborate effectively and work across multiple functional areas and with diverse user communities

  • Excellent leadership abilities, including strategy development, analytical thinking, negotiation and change management

  • Strong customer service skills

Preferred Skills/Qualifications

  • Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) preferred
