Tesoro Product Quality Specialist in San Antonio, Texas

Provides subject matter expertise on fuels regulations and specifications for all products management through Tesoro system. Performs EPA anti-dumping reporting.


  • Maintains complete and current knowledge base of applicable fuels regulations and specifications impacting company operations. Reviews sampling data to ensure business units are in compliance with applicable regulations and specifications.

  • Maintains ownership of applicable specifications and ensures changes are managed through standardized processes.

  • In coordination with Corporate Affairs, monitors fuels regulations and provides guidance to business units regarding impact of current and future regulations.

  • Produces and submits on timely basis regulatory compliance fuels reports such as, but not limited to, Gasoline and diesel Producer Annual Report, Gasoline and Diesel EPA Registration, and EPA anti-dumping reports.

  • As designated represents company on industry and regulatory bodies such as ASTM (American Society for Testing and Materials) International.

  • Convenes and coordinates activities of Product Quality Network to share learnings and best practices across Tesoro system.

  • Leads or participates in product quality investigations to effectively resolve and share learnings from incidents. Troubleshoots fuel quality incidents.


  • EDUCATION and Experience*

  • Minimum undergraduate degree in science or engineering required.

  • Minimum 7 years’ refinery operations or technical support required.

  • Experience with fuels regulations and/or regulatory reporting preferred.

  • Minimum 7 years’ refinery operations or technical support required.

  • Experience with fuels regulations and/or regulatory reporting preferred.

  • Additional Position Skills*

  • Knowledge of ASTM International (American Society for Testing and Materials) standards for fuels.

  • Knowledge of chemical/physical properties of various types of fuels.

  • Knowledge of basic fuel additives.

  • Knowledge of refined products’ manufacturing processes at refineries and downstream supply chain.
