JOB SUMMARY: Under general supervision, is responsible for directing and overseeing the collection of taxes, permits, and fees from the general public. Exercises functional supervision over assigned staff. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Oversees the handling of large sums of money. Balances cashiers' daily collections. Maintains cashiers' change fund. Balances and prepares deposit transactions. Coordinates cashier training. Reviews, endorses, and encodes checks for accuracy and completeness. Resolves taxpayers' issues and complaints. Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required. JOB REQUIREMENTS: High school diploma or GED equivalent (recognized by the Texas Education Agency or a regional accrediting agency). Three (3) years of increasingly responsible cashiering experience. This position requires a valid Class "C" Texas Driver's License OR valid driver's license from another state with the ability to obtain a valid Class "C" Texas Driver's License within 30 days of becoming a Texas resident. Use of your own personal vehicle may at time be required and proof of Liability Insurance will be required. Any applicant selected for this position must have a background check completed with results satisfactory to the City of San Antonio and successfully complete the City of San Antonio's two-phased Cash-Handling Certification Training. Must pass a Transportation Security Administration (TSA) Security Threat Assessment and a Criminal History Records check upon employment. Must maintain federally mandated security clearance required to work at an airport at all times. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Two (2) years' experience with cash handling and customer services. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Physical requirements include occasional lifting/carrying of 5 pounds; visual acuity, speech and hearing; hand and eye coordination and manual dexterity necessary to operate a computer keyboard and basic office equipment. Subject to sitting, standing, reaching, walking, twisting and kneeling to perform the essential functions. Working conditions are primarily inside an office environment. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of record keeping procedures. Knowledge of mathematical principles and practices. Knowledge of general accounting principles. Knowledge of cashiering procedures. Knowledge of audit and verification policies and procedures for check and non-cash payments. Skill in operating a cash register, calculator, and other basic office equipment. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing. Ability to supervise, train, and evaluate staff. Ability to solve problems. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, and the public. Skill in using a personal computer and associated windows based software programs. Ability to communicate clearly and effectively.
