Positions will be assigned to the Directorate for Branch Clinics (DBC), Naval Medical Center, San Diego. The position may be located at any of the Health Clinics, including the following: Naval Air Station North Island, Naval Station San Diego, Miramar, Tricare Outpatient Clinic Chula Vista, or the Naval Training Command. The mission at Naval Medical Center San Diego is to prepare to deploy in support of operational forces, deliver quality health services, and shape the future of military medicine through education, training and research. In this position, you will perform meaningful professional work in the field of Family Practice.
A typical day includes:
Providing a full range of family practice services, e.g. examining, diagnosing and treating patients from birth to death;
Documenting patient history using electronic medical records;
Performing physical examinations, ordering and interpreting appropriate diagnostic studies, prescribing medications and performing patient education.
Promoting preventative and health maintenance care including annual physicals and positive health care behaviors through education and counseling;
Providing clinical practice oversight by reviewing medical care and clinically related processes and policies.

In order to qualify for this position, your resume must provide sufficient education and experience to perform the duties of this position for which you are applying. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
(1) EDUCATION: MD or DO from an accredited school in the United States or Canada. Is your degree from a foreign medical school? If yes, then you must have a permanent ECFMG or Fifth Pathway Certificate. Please make sure your application includes your ECFMG or 5th Pathway Certificate number including date awarded.
(2) EXPERIENCE: 5 years of residency training or equivalent experience and training in Family Medicine (i.e., 3 yrs. Residency & 2 yrs. fellowship and/or experience)? Your resume must reflect that you have a sufficient level of expertise to perform the core privileges of this Physician (Family Practice) position at the GP-15 Level.
(3) LICENSE: Active, permanent, full, unrestricted physician license to practice medicine in any state, District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
Satisfy BUMEDs clinical privileges requirements which, in addition to the above, include the following:
Completion of a residency in Family Medicine approved by the American specialty board or AOA, board certification, or board eligible.
Current clinical competence (e.g., privileged to independently practice as a Family Medicine Physician within the past 2 years, actively practiced within the past 2 years by having encountered a sufficient number of clinical cases to represent a broad spectrum of the privileges required).
No health status contraindications to granting clinical privileges.
Board certification is desired but not required.
SELECTIVE PLACEMENT FACTOR: *This position has a Selective Placement Factor (screen-out) which will be used to determine minimum qualifications for this position. Applicants not possessing this Selective Placement Factor will be found ineligible for this position. The Selective Placement Factor is: Possession of a Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. *Failure to document or attach a copy of the current certification will result in an ineligible rating.
