AREVA Vice President Exploration in Saskatchewan, Canada

As the Vice President, you are responsible for the oversight and leadership of the Senior Geoscientist, District Geologists, Chief Geophysicist and Data Manager as well as the support positions including Librarian, Accountant and Administrative Assistant. You will collaborate with your Director of Exploration Projects in leading all current and future environmental, safety and quality management systems strategies within the exploration domain while executing the overall exploration operations strategy.

  • Leading Strategy: *

  • In alignment with the AREVA Group Exploration Strategy, defines the Exploration strategy enabling the discovery of new Uranium resources in Canada with a primary focus on ARC’s current exploration permits in Saskatchewan, Alberta and Nunavut.

  • Coordinates and supervises all exploration activities. This work covers drilling, geological, geophysical and geochemical data acquisition, data processing, data storage, calculation of reserves, land permit management and exploration budgets.

  • Ensures that exploration is conducted in compliance with legislation and integrates sustainable development, best industry practices and social trends.

  • Is the primary strategic partner for ARC’s alignment to AREVA Mines Exploration objectives, cascades and implements Group strategy, philosophy, networks and Group knowledge to the ARC Exploration Department.

  • Engaging Teams: *

  • Motivates and engages the exploration team: works with exploration leaders (ARC and French Corporate) to determine best organization, roles and responsibilities, and delegates the appropriate authorities.

  • Communicates and coordinates with key stakeholders (ARC Departments, French Corporate office, educational institutions, joint-venture partners).

  • Participates in the selection and hiring of new senior level exploration employees using ARC’s recruitment standards and AREVA’s Values Charter.

  • Leads and manages the training and development plans for exploration staff, including the budget.

  • Ensures the necessary resources are in place to develop safe operating procedures, performance standards and adapted work conditions.

  • Reporting, Safety and Compliance: *

  • Guarantees the quality and feasibility of strategic documents, contracts, projects and reports and their alignment to the standards defined by supervising authorities and the AREVA Group.

  • Authorizes reports to the stakeholders.

  • Is accountable for exploration safety, operations, validity of the objectives and targets and compliance to all legislation, permits, authorisations and letters of advice

  • Research and Development: *

  • Safeguards the achievement of actions related to Research & Development programs

  • Maintains a strong external network of research professionals in the Uranium field worldwide, most notably through university geological programs in both Canada and France

  • Participates actively in the AREVA Group Experts initiatives and promotes the program at AREVA Resources Canada.


  • Must have 3-5 years of experience in a senior managerial position in international mineral exploration with experience in the management of greenfield and brownfield exploration projects

  • Must have 3-5 years of experience in a senior manager capacity working with the geology of Uranium and its associated exploration techniques, including geochemistry, geophysics and drilling

  • Preference will be given to a candidate with 3-5 years management experience in Research and Development Projects

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Geology is required, a Master’s and PhD in Geology are preferred

  • Progressive leadership experience in a multicultural environment

  • Advanced knowledge of codes and mechanical engineering standards as applied to mining and milling applications

  • Ability to foster and maintain good working relationships with peers, other departments, union membership and consultants in a diverse, multi-cultural project team

  • Strong problem solving, planning and organizational skills

  • Excellent analytical, interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal

  • Successful experience and strong desire to be a mentor and coach to the team

  • Fluency in both the English and French languages is required

  • Candidate must be eligible for P.Geo certification in Saskatchewan


  • Primary location: Saskatoon Corporate Office

  • Trips to AREVA exploration sites in Northern SK, Nunavut, Alberta and the French corporate office (La Defense, France) are required, travel to other AREVA operations may be necessary


  • Salary range : $100,000 - $180,000 dependent on experience and qualifications

  • Eligible for annual remuneration increases in excess of 2%, as per company policy
