Washington State DSHS Social Service Supervisor in Tumwater, Washington

Role in our Organization: You will supervise a work unit that assures clients receive appropriate quality services that meet their needs and recognizes their capabilities and choices through timely and responsive Intake/referral assessment service delivery, reassessment, and case management. This position makes hiring decisions, provides direction and consultation to staff, makes work assignments, monitors and evaluates performance, identifies training needs, conducts unit meetings, and takes corrective action as necessary.
Although each day is different, the following duties are a sample of the activities of the Social Services Supervisor:
- Recruit, hire, train, direct and evaluate staff.
- Take part in and/or facilitate case staffing meetings which may include internal and external stakeholders.
- Utilize personnel policies and procedures to hire effectively, monitor for performance, take corrective action and complete disciplinary actions.
- Evaluate training needs of staff, provide training, and guidance to staff on program requirements and policy.
- Coordinate delivery of social services by HCS staff with various organizations and other state and local agencies.
- Conduct and complete employee's Performance and Development Plans as required. The successful candidate will have the following:
A minimum of one year paid experience determining functional capabilities and assessing risk to vulnerable adults.
Plus one of the following:
Two years as a Social Service Specialist 3.
Four years as a Social Service Specialist 2.
A Master's degree in social services, human services, behavioral sciences, or an allied field and four years of paid* social service experience equivalent to a Social Service Specialist 2.
A Bachelor's degree in social services, human services, behavioral sciences, or an allied field, and six years of paid social service experience performing functions equivalent to a Social Service Specialist 2.
*A two year Master's degree in one of the above fields that included a practicum will be substituted for one year of paid social service experience.
