The Department of Corrections (DOC) is seeking a highly motivated and qualified individual for a Fiscal Technician 2. This position is part Business Services – General Disbursements and reports through the Office of the Deputy Secretary – Financial Services. This is a full-time, permanent position located at DOC Headquarters in Tumwater, Washington.

The primary role of Business Services is to support agency operations through effective, efficient, and accountable business practices. Business Services is comprised of approximately 269 FTEs, which includes local business offices throughout the state; Contracts Unit; Grants Administration; Trust Accounting; Financial Coordination Unit; Disbursements and Purchasing; and Payroll.

What to Expect:
DOC utilizes a centralized Accounts Payable Administration model to provide financial services to 12 prisons, 16 work release facilities, and 101 Community Corrections field offices, Community Justice Centers, (COP) Shops, and outstations, and our Agency Headquarters, all geographically disbursed throughout the State of Washington. The centralized Accounts Payable department processes combined vendor payments for the agency in excess of $327 million annually.

As a journey-level technician, you will be responsible for fiscal related support services to ensure the efficient and effective operation of disbursements processing and maintenance of the computerized disbursements and financial reporting system for the DOC Accounts Payable classified as "General Disbursements."
Some of what you'll do:
- Monitor, maintain, and process assigned payment groups timely and accurately.
- Analyze and prepare invoice vouchers and purchase order documents for payments, review payment terms, and take discounts where possible. Verify local sales and use tax rates.
- Match required documents, reconcile discrepancies between purchase orders and receiving reports, verify accuracy and extensions of vendor invoices, verify sales tax and use rates, verify expenditure coding, and ensure appropriate payment authorization.
- Prepare payment batches.
- Input payment batches accurately into Agency Financial Reporting System (AFRS) by direct keying or utilizing AFRS Toolbox interface.
- Audit and reconcile batch payments against EFT and warrant registers.
- Prepare entries to encumber and liquidate purchase orders.
- Track predictable monthly recurring payments and submit monthly accrual information.
- Create and run accurate reports in Web Intelligence and Enterprise Reporting for payment verification and research. Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Basic-level proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, Access, and Outlook.
- At least two (2) years of experience in an office or fiscal related setting. Note: College level business coursework from an accredited institution whose accreditation is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) or a foreign equivalent may substitute for experience on the basis of one course for one year of work experience (Note: This will require verification of official transcripts within 30 days of employment.)
