The Consumer Print design team is embarking on a creatively-rich endeavor to reinvent printing experiences. In this position, you'll be managing and leading a team of talented designers through the ideation, conceptualization and realization of new products ranging from social/photo appliances, go-anywhere printers and innovative new products for smart homes. The products your team creates will touch the lives of tens of millions of people worldwide in developed and emerging markets.

You'll be responsible for creating and developing concepts and specifications that optimize the function, ergonomics, value and appearance of physical, hardware products and systems for the mutual benefit of both user and business. Work within this job family falls into three major categories: (1) new physical product concepts and designs. (2) enhancements and changes to original design and extensions to existing programs. (3) strategic design - new or improved physical design language, portfolio design, design archetypes, etc.

Your team is part of a global design organization comprised of researchers, trend experts, user experience designers, interaction designers and customer education teams. You'll ensure creative and productive collaboration among these functions to create award-winning designs and drive positively impact for this multi-billion dollar business for HP.


  • Provides direct and ongoing leadership for a team of individual contributors creating industrial design solutions and coordinating design projects for physical hardware products and systems.

  • Manages headcount, deliverables, schedules, and costs for multiple ongoing projects, ensuring that resources are appropriately allocated and that goals, objectives, timelines, and budgets are met in accordance with program and organizational roadmaps.

  • Communicates project status and escalates issues to direct managers, program managers, and internal and external development partners.

  • Manages relationships with outsourced partners and suppliers, including setting expectations regarding deliverables, product quality, schedules, and costs; ensures that team members are effectively communicating and collaborating with outsourced resources.

  • Proactively identifies opportunities for process improvement and cost reductions opportunities.

  • Provides people-care management for assigned team members, including hiring, setting and monitoring of annual performance plans, coaching, and career development; ensures that proper knowledge and career development tools are in place to support ongoing team member and process development.

  • First level university, Bachelor’s, or Master’s degree in Industrial Design (ID), or equivalent experiences.

  • Minimum 5 or more years of directly related ID experience in high volume manufactured electronic products.

  • Minimum 2 or more years of direct people management experience in an ID or multi-disciplinary design function.

Knowledge and Skills:

Required: Demonstrated expertise, including a portfolio of work in Industrial Design.

Strongly desired: direct and/or management experience in User Experience Design, Services Design, Interaction Design or Visual Design.

  • Strong leadership skills, including coaching, team-building, and conflict resolution.

  • Advanced project management skills including time and risk management, resource prioritization, and project structuring.

  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills.

  • Ability to manage human capital across geographies to drive workforce development and achieve desired results

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including negotiation, presentation, and influence skills

  • Advanced business acumen, technical knowledge, and extensive knowledge in applications and technologies

  • Strong multi-tasking and prioritization skills

  • Strong communication skills (e.g. written, verbal, presentation); mastery in English and local language

  • Good understanding of the company's policies and processes.
