Hotel Overview: Fairmont Château Laurier is the iconic hotel of Ottawa - Canada's Capital City. Built in the age of grandeur, Ottawa's very own castle is a magnificent limestone edifice with turrets and masonry reminiscent of a French château. Summary of Responsibilities: Reporting to the Director of Front Office, responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following:

  • Offer the best arrival and departure experiences to our guests at all times in a consistent, professional and engaging manner;

  • Ensure an efficient circulation of traffic at the front entrance driveway at all times while making efficient use of available parking spaces;

  • Be visible and accessible to guests at all times while providing warm, sincere and engaging service that follows the Service Essentials, ensuring guests feel valued and treat each and every guest as a unique individual, personalizing the interaction(s) with thoughtful and personal touches;

  • Resolve guest problems and never say “no” without offering an alternative. OWN the follow-up to ensure the problem is resolved, and be that guest’s point of contact;

  • Be guided by and exhibit Fairmont core values; respect, integrity, teamwork, accountability & excellence;

  • Be an ambassador for the Brand, Hotel, Community and Colleagues;

  • Constantly display a professional appearance and polished demeanor;

  • Provide a seamless arrival experience using the curbside check-in;

  • Open Hotel doors for arriving and departing guests while greeting them warmly;

  • Open car doors for arriving and departing guests while greeting them warmly;

  • Assist with the loading and unloading of luggage to and from guest vehicles;

  • Liaise with Valet Attendants for parking services;

  • Assist guests with entering luggage in the Hotel and transfer to Bellperson;

  • Act as Concierge by answering guests inquiries regarding Hotel facilities and the local area;

  • Follow Departmental Policies, Procedures and Service Standards in accordance with Brand and Leading Quality Assurance Standards for the position;

  • Work as a team and in cooperation with Valet Attendants and other Guest Services Team members;

  • Maintain the cleanliness and state of the Front Doors and portes cochères area;

  • Be aware of, support and ensure all health and safety policies, environmental policies & evacuation procedures;

  • Other duties as assigned.

Employee Status

Qualifications:

  • Must have a passion for the delivery of OUTSTANDING guest service;

  • Must be able to deliver service in both English and French;

  • Valid driver’s licence with ability to drive standard transmission;

  • Must be in excellent physical condition and able to lift heavy items;

  • Ability to work in varied weather conditions;

  • Must have a flexible schedule;

  • Excellent communication skills, advanced problem solving abilities andbe highly responsible and reliable;

  • Ability to work well under pressure in a fast paced team environment;

  • Ability to focus attention on guest needs, remaining calm and courteous at all times;

  • Previous Guest Services or customer related experience an asset;

  • Post Secondary education in hospitality an asset;

  • Ability to work cohesively with fellow colleagues as part of a team.

Physical Aspects of Position (include but are not limited to):

  • Frequent lifting and carrying up to 45lbs

  • Constant standing and walking throughout shift

  • Constant pushing, pulling, lifting

  • Frequent ascending or descending stairs and ramps
