University of Toronto Business Manager in United States

The Business Manager is responsible for managing the financial services of the Office of the Governing Council. The incumbent provides investigative, analytical and planning support to the Director, Operations and to the Secretary of the Governing Council. The incumbent is accountable for operations, and finance of the budgets for the Office of the Governing Council, specifically the Secretariat, Appeals, Discipline and Faculty Grievances (ADFG), the Office of Convocation, the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Office (FIPPO) and the Office of the University Ombudsperson. Financial management includes developing financial and administrative processes, identifying anomalies in data and extensive use of spreadsheets. Ensures the accurate compilation, analysis and reporting of accounting data and provides oversight of revenues and spending.

The Business Manager is also responsible for assigned audit work including the “Continuous Auditing of Transactions”, the yearly audit report for the University's Student Societies and assisting senior auditors with other independent audits of the University's organizational and functional units. Provide professional advice on the adequacy, effectiveness and efficiency of internal control procedures, accounting procedures, custody of assets and security.

(MINIMUM)

I. EDUCATION:

University degree in accounting or business, or combination of formal education and experience.

II. EXPERIENCE:

A minimum of five years financial experience. Demonstrated knowledge of and experience in:

• the University’s budget and administrative policies;

• budget modelling and forecasting; g

• human resource management systems and working effectively in a unionized environment;

• all the University’s AMS systems, particularly FIS and HRIS;

• team building, managing change and adapting to new technologies

III. SKILLS:

• Computer competency with knowledge of spreadsheets and word processing applications

• Excellent interpersonal, communications and organizations skills

IV. OTHER:

Practical knowledge in all phases of accounting, human resource management and other business practices. Excellent tact, judgment and discretion. Ability to interpret and evaluate policy and procedural requirements.
