Washington State DSHS College Career Graduate to Social Service Specialist 3 (On-Call After Hours Program) in Washington


Children's Administration is currently searching for multiple dynamic, motivated and culturally competent temporary on-call Social Service Specialists with the After Hours Program within Region 2 area that includes King, Snohomish, Skagit and Whatcom County.

This job is at the Social Service Specialist 3 level, we may consider hiring people who are at the Social Service Specialist 2, Social Service Specialist 1 or College Career Graduate level. Duties

An on-call appointment is where the work is intermittent in nature, is sporadic and does not fit a particular pattern. The primary work hours for this job will be nights, weekends including holidays.

You'll provide coverage to entire Region 2 consisting of 6 counties to include King, Snohomish, Skagit, Island, San Juan and Whatcom. After consult with and being dispatched by supervisor, staff will investigate reported incident of suspected child abuse and neglect. Worker will make contact with law enforcement, parents and the alleged victim and other collateral's to determine the validity of the complaint. Perform a risk assessment of the family and develop a goal oriented plan or contact with the family as needed to alleviate the situation. Contact law enforcement to take a child into custody in situations that child can not return home. Complete all necessary paperwork needed for documentation including summary assessment and SER as required. Staff case with supervisor, route all paperwork to appropriate office.

For Family Reconciliation Services (FRS), upon supervisor assignment, worker will respond to local police departments to assess family conflicts. Make contact with child and parents and determine risk to family members.

You'll respond to foster homes in an effort to preserve placement. Offer services to foster parent as needed. Supervise children in the office awaiting placement. Find placement and transport child as needed.

You'll provide intake backup coverage for Child Protective Services (CPS), FRS and Child Welfare Services (CWS), as needed. This includes emergency child welfare checks on assigned cases and/or health and safety checks.



A Bachelor's degree in such disciplines as: criminal justice, law, psychology, social work, sociology, vocational therapy, education or closely related field.

Note: Employees must successfully complete the formal training course sponsored by their division within one year of their appointment.

Note: A degree in Social Work must be from an educational program accredited by the Council on Social Work Education. Supplemental Information
