Verizon Wireless Systems Perfomance Engineer in West Nyack, New York


The primary purpose of this position is to proactively provide support for overall network performance with emphasis on Inbuilding/oDAS/iDAS/Small Cell solutionsand use a wide variety of tools to ensure optimal and reliable service for Verizon Wireless customers, as well as, constantly evaluate and improve performance trends and take action to investigate and resolve performance degradations.

Monitor and meet System Performance goals including Ineffective Attempts (IA) and Lost Calls (LC) in voice networks, Failed Connection Attempts (FCA) and Dropped Connections (DC) in EVDO, and RRC Set Up Failures and Bearer Drops in LTE networks. Ensuring proper VoLTE functionality. Optimization and project management of problem areas in order to improve performance and/or capacity through the use of field changeable parameters

Essential Functions for oDAS/Inbuilding/Subways/Small Cells:

  • Evaluation of Service Performance trends using system or drive data

  • Perform all RF Performance activities required to support the network build program (new cells, modifications, carrier adds, etc.)

  • Call/meet customer or employee if necessary

  • Test coverage at subject locations

  • Evaluate Inbuilding/oDAS/iDAS/Small Cell solutions designs, installations and complete testing for activation

  • Isolation of root causes and impacted services, features and markets

  • VoLTE testing with understanding and analyses of relevant KPIs

  • Coordinate technical investigations and testing with appropriate regional, area and HQ functions

  • Provide technical analysis, troubleshooting, and training assistance to markets and regions as requested

  • Optimizes LTE and RAN Networks using traditional and innovative means.

  • Investigates and resolves customer complaints regarding service.

  • Interacts professionally with customers (internal and external)

  • Integrates new cell sites, small cells, and DAS systems into existing macro Network

  • Works with RF Design to modify network

  • Take ownership of issues and drives them to resolution

  • Is self-motivated and efficient with minimal supervision

  • Works well with colleagues and with various departments (Area and HQ Network, Network Operations, Network Engineering, Maintenance Engineering) and vendors to implement changes and troubleshoot


  • Bachelor's degree in Computer/Electrical Engineering (or degree with a similar rigor) with a minimum of 5 years of experience with Inbuilding/oDAS/iDAS/Small Cell solutions.

  • Knowledge of LTE and CDMA technologies.

  • Knowledge of LTE including VoLTE and RAN Networks

  • Knowledge of IP and transport protocols

  • Strong statistical and analytical abilities

  • Working knowledge of at least one data collection tool such as Datapro

  • Working knowledge of data analysis/post-processing tools such as Irisview, Windcatcher/Actix

  • Knowledge of propagation and optimization modeling tools such as

  • Planet, GeoPlan, ACP, DB Planner

  • Knowledge of ALU systems including OSS preferred

  • Knowledge of 3GPP LTE standards preferred

  • Ability to understand, compile, evaluate, and present complex data and solutions

  • Ability to differentiate and diagnose RAN and CORE related problems; understanding of Systems Engineering aspects related to RAN & proficiency in Core level call flow analysis. IMS understanding is a plus.

  • Knowledge of programming languages such as C++, Python, Unix, scripting tools is a plus

  • Knowledge of mapping software such as MapInfo, ArcGIS, Topo

  • Flexibility in work schedule.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office: Excel, Word, PowerPoint

  • Valid driver’s license and good driving record.

  • Strong work ethic, integrity and work extremely well in a tea
