Federal Reserve Bank Senior Financial Analyst in Chicago, Illinois

Job Summary:

Supports the core business activities of Financial Management (Cost Accounting, Budgeting and Forecasting) by performing daily activities of a complex nature including financial analysis, performance reporting, and collaboration with stakeholders. The senior financial analyst also ensures compliance with budget guidance, cost accounting rules, Federal Reserve System policies and Standard Operating Procedures. The level of work required is considered advanced and staff must be able to work under minimal supervision. This job does not have any direct reports.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conducts analysis of complex budget, forecast, and cost accounting data

  • Performs daily and monthly operational tasks for forecasting and cost accounting functions

  • Ensures daily operations of core functions are consistent with established policies, procedures and controls

  • Provides policy consultation and guidance related to business units and various leadership levels in the organization

  • Provides complex analytical support to produce performance reporting and management presentations

  • Fields, researches, and responds to complex inquiries regarding Federal Reserve System or local Reserve Bank policies

  • Actively contributes and/or leads in preparing the district's budget document

  • Leads District and System wide testing of accounting and financial applications

  • Works with internal/external auditors and Board of Governor staff to provide information and documentation

  • Leads projects to adopt policies, improve processes and/or strengthen the control environment

  • Leads cross-functional teams within the division or across the bank

  • Actively supports or leads Federal Reserve System workgroups

  • Leads training efforts for the department

  • Serves as an informal mentor for team members

  • Performs other duties as assigned

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance or Accounting or equivalent experience as noted below

  • 5 to 7 plus years of direct work related experience coursework in Finance and/or Accounting beneficial

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Possesses and applies broad knowledge of principles, practices, and procedures in the field of specialization

  • Demonstrates strong critical thinking and decision-making capability

  • Demonstrates strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Possesses strong analytical skills and ability to apply, interpret, and explain analysis of complex financial data

  • Ability to perform complex, independent research and create high-quality narratives and presentation materials

  • Demonstrates capacity to work well in a team environment

  • Proficient knowledge of current technology and software applications, including ability to create and modify complex spreadsheets in Microsoft Excel
