DaVita Director, Strategy & Special Projects in El Segundo, California


Responsible for serving as a vital consultant in the development and execution of a variety of strategy and operational projects for HealthCare Partners’ (HCP’s) Independent Practice Association (IPA) network. Primarily focused on: Scoping, planning, and managing projects; business case analyses; collaboration among departments; and operating process improvement opportunities and implementation. Leverages prior experience with health systems and/or medical groups. Performs complex activities independently as directed by Senior Executive Team or project sponsor(s).. Interacts extensively with senior executives across all functional areas and key HCP teams.

  • Accountable for defining, overseeing, coordinating and supporting projects and programs to improvement network performance.

  • Ensures that key decision makers are involved to the appropriate degree in the appropriate aspects of the projects.

  • Forecasts program benefits and costs, highlighting critical factors, risks, and key assumptions.

  • Confirms the organization’s commitment and readiness for change, customer ownership and accountability for taking advantage of the business benefits.

  • Performs cost analysis functions including ROIs, budgets, and other benefits analyses as required for program.

  • Escalates critical issues to business sponsor, committee(s), or work group(s) if necessary for appropriate and timely resolution as needed.

  • Facilitates strategic discussion with senior management and other key internal stakeholders in the development of plans to improve processes, outcomes and operational efficiencies.

  • Identifies performance improvement opportunities within the process or areas that require remediation.

  • Engages in analysis, development and execution of a project plan and implementation of operating policies to support all assigned projects.

  • Leads and directs projects that have an operational impact in functional areas within HealthCare Partners (HCP).

  • Identifies best practices, defines those practices and drives rollout across the organization.

  • Evaluates performance as part of specific focus areas and drives associated improvement.

  • Provides ongoing status reports regarding project activities to senior leadership and all impacted HCP functional areas.

  • Uses, protects, and discloses HCP patients’ protected health information (PHI) only in accordance with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) standards.

  • Performs additional duties as assigned.


  • Bachelor’s degree from a four-year college required.

  • Master’s degree in Business, Health Care Administration, Public Health or other relevant area required.


  • 5 years experience in management consulting or investment banking.

  • 3-5 years of relevant strategy or operations experience with managed care, medical groups, and/or health systems.

  • Experience with managed care business and financial models.

  • Early stage company experience.

  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills and impeccable business judgment.

  • Business case development, modeling, and presentation skills.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to be personable yet persistent.


  • Strong PC-based business software skills (Access, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Project, Visio) and other business tools.

  • Strong ability to collaborate with senior leadership and other department directors/managers to define business process issues, analyze operational efficiencies, implement creative solutions, and measure delivery of services.

  • Highly developed conceptual skills; able to synthesize information quickly; understands various industries and functions; and able to present material in an organized and clear manner.

  • Maintains a solid ability to problem solve and demonstrate clear critical thinking skills.

  • Exhibits strong writing skills with the ability to write concisely and in an organized manner.

  • Familiarity with change management strategies and tactical plans.
