CHS has an exciting opportunity at our Oil Refinery facility in Laurel, MT. We are looking for a Refinery Accountant to join our team. The ideal candidate be a detail-oriented, results-driven individual with a commitment to quality, accuracy and the ability to organize and prioritize workloads to meet deadlines. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to work in both a team environment and on self-directed tasks are essential.

We will trust you to:

  • Balance, reconcile and analyze union and non-union hourly payrolls to ensure accurate processing of paychecks.

  • Process reconciliation of union holiday and vacation balances.

  • Maintain a high knowledge and understanding of the Refinery and Pipeline Union Contracts.

  • Work with sensitive material and maintain a high level of confidentiality.

  • Facilitate the collection and coordination of Solomon Data.

  • Support Construction-in-Progress Accountant and work-in-progress process by creating work orders, balancing general ledger to access database, and processing accurate closure memos.

  • Initiate general ledger account analysis and investigate variances greater than identified thresholds.

  • Provide support to operations expense budget process.

  • Conduct analysis and reconciliation of contractor payroll reports maintaining the contractor payables software for Refinery.

  • Prepare and complete blends for Senior Chemist, Environmental Protection Agency audit and Royalty reports associated with Laurel Refinery.

  • Provide backup for other departmental positions such as the refinery yield, weekly and monthly government reports, daily and monthly pipeline sales reconciliation, and the daily accounts payable process.

  • Establish, build and maintain working relationships with outside customers and operational employees providing customer service.

  • Perform other duties as needed or assigned.

  • Maintain and promote a strong safety culture and follow all safety policies, procedures and regulations. Identify and communicate workplace hazards and correct or seek assistance in correcting unsafe actions or conditions.

Basic Qualifications: (required)

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related field

  • Up to 2 years of accounting experience working in general ledger systems to include:

  • Accounts Payable experience

  • Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook

Preferred Qualifications: (desired)

  • Oil and Gas industry experience

  • Knowledge of Kronos payroll, JD Edwards, SAP or other accounting computerized applications

  • Experience in working with daily deadlines, month-end, quarter end and year end reports
