Job Summary:

  • Assumes responsibility for all nursing care provided to residents within an assigned unit; knows the residents’ conditions at all times; observes and supervises nursing care according to physician’s orders and in conformance with recognized nursing techniques and procedures, established standards and administrative policies.

  • Recognizes and interprets symptoms, reports on residents’ conditions and assists with or institutes remedial measures of adverse developments.

  • Assists in maintaining a physical, social and psychological environment which is conducive to the best interest and welfare of residents.

  • Investigates and studies trends and developments in nursing practices and techniques and assesses their adaptability to the needs of specific nursing programs.

  • Assists in teaching ancillary nursing personnel; orients and trains new employees as directed by the Director of Nursing Services. Assists with evaluation of designated personnel.

  • Assumes responsibility for proper care of apparatus used in treating residents. Instructs all designated staff in the use of new equipment and procedures. Assures that all policies are followed by nursing personnel on assigned unit.

  • Accepts, transcribes and audits doctor’s orders as assigned; makes rounds with physicians.


  1. EDUCATION: LPN or RN graduated from an accredited school of nursing. Current registration with State Board of Nurse Examiners. Ability to speak, read and write English. Ability to follow written and oral direction.

  2. TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE: Will receive in-service training in special areas. IV certification will be required.

  3. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Ambulates, positions, transfers and turns residents at a minimum of fifty (50) pounds frequently. Turns, crouches, kneels, stoops, bends below waist and reaches above shoulder height frequently. Climbs stairs frequently. Walks, sits and stands frequently. Lifts and/or carries objects at a minimum of fifty (50) pounds frequently. Pushes and/or pulls equipment at a minimum of one hundred (100) pounds frequently. Uses sight and auditory senses. Possesses good finger and hand dexterity.
