American Express Director - Product Delivery & Integration in New York
/Are you ready to drive at scale transformational change enabling product teams to innovatively and quickly create and get to market products that win the hearts and minds of our current and future customers?/ The Director of Delivery Transformation will strive to accelerate the enablement and adoption of a Lean-Agile mindset, patterns and practices by product and engineering groups at all levels of American Express. Understanding and applying core principles of change management and how to help others understand and opt into an Agile way of work is essential for this position. This role needs an individual who has seen, is a believer and can help others see the ‘art of the possible’ in Agile at scale. This leader will inform strategy, build plans and engage as appropriate to help organizations transform to product-based Agile delivery aligned with strategic company initiatives. Incumbent will be part of a broader team responsible for transforming American Express. This Director will help design, influence and manage supporting Agile recruiting, training, communities, tools and processes. Responsibilities include: • Drive Agile enablement and learning strategy across American Express partnering closely with the product and delivery. • Driving innovation and fast fail mindset across the team enabling new ideas reach the end outcome via collaborative approach. • Partner with Business in the investment decisioning processes by ensuring provision of information concerning specific business opportunities where technology can enhance the value of the business. • Collaborate with Product Management leaders and teams to gain visibility, vision, context, and clarity of products to be delivered. • Change Agent and Strategic thinker modernizing our technology method by partnering with DevOps and Operational Excellence teams to drive optimization, automation of the E2E delivery capabilities eliminating manual touch points. • Works closely with Product Leaders and Managers to capture in rich in deep Backlogs the right level of strategic information from Vision > Initiative down ultimately to User Stories that will help our teams drive for effective, value-based delivery every Sprint. • Recruit and nurture product management, Coaching and engineering talent. • Effectively manage growing demand for Coaching services across the company. • Reviews and oversees strategic delivery plans in terms of schedule, cost, scope, and quality. • Supports and guides the development process, collaborating effectively across multiple cross-functional teams to skillfully execute on milestones and deliverables in a timely manner. • Proactively anticipates any risks and issues that may arise during the delivery of the strategic initiatives, and ensures that appropriate mitigation actions are undertaken. • Promotes continuous improvement in technology delivery processes to drive overall improvements in quality and performance. • Actively engages in resourcing processes to ensure organization agility. • Responsible for leading delivery of significant change programs or other large business initiatives • Accountable for driving strategic vision within scope of responsibility.
Qualifications • Proven ability leading and driving Agile, Lean, Scrum, SAFe or other rapid application product teams to deliver innovative customer solutions quickly within budget and with high quality. • Strong people leader with 5 year’s Leadership experience. • Experience in leading successful teams • Experience in Rally (CA Agile Central) and SAFe implementation is highly preferred. • Proven ability to translate overall business vision and objectives into tactical strategies and executable plans, providing options where applicable. • Experience in building state of the art learning capabilities enabling organization to learn and share from each other. • Experience in clarifying objectives, dealing with ambiguity/under-defined problems, advocating for simplification, and influencing teams. • Strong communication skills, both written and oral with experience in creation and delivery of executive presentations. • Good listening and negotiation skills to resolve conflict and devise mitigation strategies. • Demonstrated ability to drive change across large global teams with a strong working knowledge of change management approaches. • Familiarity with multiple software development methodologies (Agile and Waterfall preferred). • Prior relevant professional work experience, including product development and Agile software delivery. • Requires technical and business knowledge in multiple disciplines. • Must possess strong motivational skills and techniques to ensure resources are fully engaged. • Ability to navigate a large organization and develop strong relationships across IT and business partners. • Strong experience in both written and verbal communication; ability to effectively communicate to multiple levels within the organization. • Proven experience in strategic thought leadership (Creating a Vision) and managing multiple complex projects (Delivering on the Promise). • Direct experience in managing contracts and consulting engagement management experience highly recommended. • Demonstrated ability to think strategically and tactically about the delivery of the strategic plan with strong independent problem-solving skills, while maintaining a results-driven approach. • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or other relevant field, or has equivalent work experience.
